462 - FolkArt ® Artists Pigments™ - Burnt Umber 2 oz.
664 - FolkArt ® Metallics - Copper, 2 oz.
679 - FolkArt ® Artists Pigments™ - Turner's Yellow, 2 oz.
901 - FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors - Wicker White, 2 oz.

Unfinished wood magazine holder - birdhouse style
Shop Rag


1. Using ¾” flat brush, paint entire project with Heartland Blue stain, stroking in direction of wood-grain.
2. Wipe off while wet with Shop Rag in direction of wood-grain. Let dry.
3. Side of project:
4. Double load #12 flat brush with Burnt Umber and Wicker White. Slide on chisel edge to “weave” bird-nest.
5. Fill in middle of nest with solid color left on brush.
6. Double load #12 with Turner’s Yellow and Wicker White. Paint eggs in nest and branch under nest.
7. Double load #12 with Fresh Foliage and Thicket. Paint leaves coming off branches.
8. With “dirty” brush, side load into Copper Metallic and paint copper leaves in between green ones.
9. Using Script Liner brush, paint scrolls with thinned Burnt Umber.
10. Front of project:
11. Double load #12 brush with Burnt Umber and Turner’s Yellow. Paint urns and window box.
12. Highlight right side of urns with Turner’s Yellow using Script Liner.
13. Double load #12 brush with Fresh Foliage and Thicket. Paint bushes growing from urns and greenery in window box. Highlight bushes and paint scrolling vines with Fresh Foliage using the Script Liner. Refer to photo.
14. Paint purple trailing blossoms with Violet Pansy and Wicker White using the Script Liner brush.
15. Paint doorknob and hinges with Script Liner using Turner’s Yellow shaded with Burnt Umber.
