How can I prevent my stitches from looking lumpy?
Experiment with the tension on your thread or yarn. You are probably stitching too loose.
How do I transfer decorative painting patterns onto my project surface?
Place tracing paper over the pattern you wish to transfer. Neatly trace the main design lines with a pencil.
Position traced pattern on project, then slip a piece of transfer paper under tracing paper. Retrace the design. Hint: When retracing design lines, you can use a different color pencil or pen for your second tracing so that you can see if you have traced all the lines.
Remove tracing paper and transfer paper to reveal the transferred design.

Transparent colors are thinned with medium or water to create a wash or a glaze of color that you can see through to the underlying surface.
What is a template or frisket?
A template is a shield which consists of an edge that can be stenciled to create a design, such as a large, curved piece to form hills or mountains. When used in this context, a template is also called a frisket. Many pre-cut stencil designs include templates or friskets. You can create a template by cutting a piece of a 5" x 8" index card or stencil blank material to the shape you need.
