FAQs

Over time, will Leather Studio™ paint crack or peel?
Leather Studio™ paint is very flexible and will bend, however, it is a product that is being applied over a flexible surface. In surface areas where a lot of flexing occurs, the leather or vinyl may begin to crack.
If this occurs simply bend back the cracking area and fill in with desired color of paint.
How can I achieve the smooth satin look of traditional decoupage?
After applying at least 6 coats of Royal Coat Decoupage Finish to your project (allowing 20 minutes drying time between coats), follow these instructions:
  1. Wet #400 sandpaper with water and a drop of dish soap and sand the finish lightly until flat and smooth. Wipe dry.
  2. Polish the project with #0000 steel wool.
  3. For an even glossier finish, dip the steel wool into a liquid paste of linseed oil and pumice. Gently polish the surface until smooth.
How do I get the Gallery Glass® Window Color™ to be smooth?
After you have applied paint to a section, hold the pointed end of the metal combing tool perpendicular to the glass and "comb" or stroke back and forth quickly in straight lines through the paint creating a smooth grain. Do not over comb or paint will run. Clean the tool between colors.
How do you paint bows with the One Stroke™ script liner brush?
First, make the two loops of the bow.
Make the tails and add a small dot for the knot.
How long will it take my Waverly Inspirations waxed surface to fully dry after buffing?
Waverly Inspirations waxed and buffed surfaces will be fully dry in 7 days. Until then, keep the surface free from moisture and heavy use to allow enough time for the wax to fully dry.
In what order should I do the embroidery and cutting on my Bucilla project?
Do all of the embroidery before cutting out the individual pieces.
The FolkArt Home Decor Chalk Paint Brushes seem too small for my extra large project. Is there another option?
Yes! The FolkArt Home Decor Wide Brush is 4in wide and is great for covering large areas quickly. The specialty nylon bristles are designed to create a smooth finish.
What if my project surface has a waxy, highly-polished finish or polish build-up?
Some items may have a waxy finish or perhaps a surface ready to be upcycled may have a shoe polish build-up.
It is best to prepare these surfaces before painting with Leather Studio paints. Sanding the surface lightly with fine grit sandpaper will provide better adhesion for Leather Studio paints. Wipe sanded surface with a damp cloth to remove sanding residue. Another helpful hint when working with highly-polished finishes is to wipe the surface with a cotton swab damped with window cleaner; allow to dry.
How can I decoupage clear plates to be food safe?
This is called decoupaging in reverse. To decoupage in reverse, please refer to 33302 Botanical Birds. To create the look of these plates, simply apply the Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Finish of your choice to the backside of the glass plate after it is properly prepared.
Then apply the Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Finish of your choice to the front side of the bird paper cut-out and apply the image to the backside of the plate. Continue with the standard decoupage procedure applying the Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Finish of your choice and allowing proper drying times between applications. Complete the look of the reverse decoupage by painting an opaque application of paint over the entire backside of the plate. Allow to cure for 21 days prior to use.
How do I make Gallery Glass® patterns I've created fit my windows?
Determine how many repetitions, if any, will be necessary for your project. Note that most of the designs are quite large and involve repeating motifs, and the section of pattern given may be a quarter or a half of the whole design, requiring mirror-imaging to complete the whole design. To alter the size of the design you can:
  • Add border(s) or make the border wider
  • Remove border(s) or make them smaller
  • Reduce or enlarge the pattern on a copy machine.
