FAQs

How do you adjust the design repeat of a stencil for the corner of a room?
To adjust a stencil design to fit the corners of your room, on one wall you might need to stretch and on the other to squeeze the design. Try to stretch or squeeze the motif when stenciling the final corner where the design is to meet. If that's not practical, another option is to add a less dominant design motif, such as an acorn, a leaf, or a twig, in the final corner to finish the design.
To stretch the design: To ease the design into the corner so a major design element fits on the adjoining wall, stretch the last 304 repeats by increasing the space between design elements 1/2" to 1" per repeat.
Squeezing the design: Decrease the spacing between design elements 1/4" to 1/2" so that the design element that would have gone into the corner is pulled back on the wall before the corner.
How do you paint curliques with the One Stroke™ script liner brush?
When making curliques you need an inky consistency of paint then pull the script liner brush in spirals, as shown in the photo.
What are filbert brushes and how are they used?
Filberts are round brushes that are put into a flat ferrule. Sometimes these are easier to use than the rounds. For instance, they make it easier to start off the comma strokes because the hairs are already spread out. As you pull away from the surface to finish your stroke, you can slightly turn this type brush to the side to make a tiny tail to your comma stroke.
What is Leather Studio™ paint?
Leather Studio™ is an acrylic-based craft paint that is designed to add color and design to most leather or vinyl surfaces.
When applied to these surfaces, Leather Studio paint creates a strong, yet flexible film.
How can I get an antiqued decoupage look?
Royal Coat ® Antique Decoupage Finish adds a mellow, antique look to decoupaged surfaces. Use it to apply cutouts to your surface and then brush on two light coats over the entire surface. Each coat will slightly deepen the color of the finished piece and create an aged patina.
To get the exact degree of antiquing you desire apply FolkArt ® Antiquing Medium to the entire project after Royal Coat ® Decoupage Finish is dry. Apply Antiquing Medium with a brush or soft sponge. Wipe off as much or as little as you wish with a soft cloth or paper towel for the desired effect. Allow to dry. Then apply two final coats of Royal Coat.
How do I make sure that the different colors I am using in the design don’t run together?
Designs should be segmented so each color has a closed section. If using a design of your own or from another source, add lines to your design where needed before leading the design. Segmenting also helps achieve the look of genuine stained glass.
How do you clean and store a stencil so it can be used in the future?
After cleaning with water or Murphy's Oil soap, store stencils flat in the package they came in or in large envelopes or file folders. Tape a copy of a paper proof to the package, envelope or folder for easy identification.
How do you paint moss using the One Stroke™ scruffy brush?
Load the scruffy brush with Thicket, Sunflower and a little Wicker White (optional). Pounce an irregular half circle, with the darker color on the outside.
Move across, overlapping half circles.
Lost pattern for a Bucilla kit that has been discontinued for more than a year.
We have received your request for instructions for your needlecraft project.
The kit you are inquiring about has been discontinued for more than one year. We are only able to service kits that are active or have been discontinued for less than a year, and therefore we are unable to provide you with these instructions.
What recommendations are there when selecting Leather Studio™ paint colors?
All colors of Leather Studio™ paint are developed to cover any surface color. Most paint colors will cover in one to two applications.
A helpful hint: light paint colors work best over light surfaces; and dark paint colors over dark surfaces. When painting a light color over a dark surface, it is recommended to first basecoat with white paint for best results.
