How can I repair a torn stencil?
If you tear a stencil, repair it by applying a small amount of transparent tape to both sides of the tear. Use a utility knife to cut away tape from inside the cutout areas of the design.
How do I launder my finished needle craft?
  • Upon completing a needle craft project, it is best to launder it and then set the floss dyes. To do this, begin with a cool water / mild dish liquid detergent bath. Fully immerse the completed project into the soapy water and slightly agitate the fabric using your fingers.
  • Once clean, remove from the cool water bath and rinse well under cool water until the projects rinses clear.
  • Next, immerse the project in a cool water/vinegar bath to set the floss colors. To do this, add just a splash of white distilled vinegar to a cool water bath. Allow the project to set a few minutes, then rinse well once again under cool water.
  • Lay the washed project out flat on a white towel, then roll the towel up to remove excess water and begin drying. Do NOT wring the fabric.
  • After towel drying, it is best to completely dry the project on an ironing board using a hot iron, with no steam. To do this, lay the washed project stitching side down / back side up on a clean ironing board. Place a pressing cloth over the back of the project and press using a hot, dry iron. Lift and move the iron and continue pressing until all areas are dry and pressed smooth.
How do you embroider a cross stitch?
Cross-stitches are done in a row or if necessary, can be done one at a time in an area.
Stitching is done by coming up at A, then go down at B, the hole diagonally across from A. Come back up at C and down at D, etc. Complete the top stitches to create an “X.” All top stitches should lie in the same direction.
How do you paint a One Stroke™ rosebud?
Using a flat brush, determine the width of the rosebud by making 2 vertical lines to use as your guidelines. Double or triple load your brush with a dark color and a highlight color.
Position the brush so that the light color of paint is at the right side of the brush. Make the top of the bud first. Position the chisel edge of the brush at the left.
Pull brush into a curve, ending at the opposite guideline with the brush up on the chisel edge.
Make the lower "U" shaped section of the bud by starting on the chisel at the left guideline.
Pull brush in a curve to opposite guideline, ending on the chisel edge of the brush. Make another layer of the bottom stroke, positioning stroke just slightly lower than the first.
To make the calyx, double load the same flat brush with your leaf color and highlight color. Start with the chisel edge at the base of the bud.
Lean and pull the brush and lead with the lighter edge of brush as you pull stroke along the side of the bud. Do not bend the wrist, but pull arm.
End the calyx on the chisel edge as you lift the edge of brush.
Should I clean my brush when I am switching colors?
Yes, it is advisable to clean your paintbrush when changing colors as well as after each painting session.
What does hue mean?
Hue is a color or shade of color in a perticular range.
How can I stencil out only one part of a design of a single layer stencil without getting the paint into adjacent areas?
When you wish to use only one part of a design, tape over the cutout areas near it with stencil tape. Sometimes this is done to stencil part of the design with one color and other parts with another color. If you then want to include the areas you masked out, remove the tape, tape over the areas you previously stenciled with the first color, and stencil the next areas with the second color.
