FAQs

What is the best stenciling technique to use when stenciling with FolkArt Milk Paint?
When stenciling with FolkArt Milk Paint, it is best to use a dry brush technique. Make sure your stencil brush is properly loaded and excess milk paint has been removed. To load the stencil brush, dab the bristles into a small puddle of FolkArt Milk Paint and remove most of the paint by dabbing a paper towel. Stencils can be taped or held in place. When stenciling, hold the stencil brush vertically, and keeping the flat portion of the bristles flat to the surface, touch the stencil and begin stenciling using a circular motion moving clockwise then counter-clockwise.
NOTE: It is best to begin at the outer edges of the stencil design working toward the center. Stenciled designs can remain clean and crisp as stenciled or when dry sanded slightly to create an aged, distressed look.
When using Martha Stewart Crafts ® High Gloss Finish should I shake the bottle to mix?
No. Do not shake the bottle. Roll the bottle on a tabletop several times to mix thoroughly.
How much coverage does the Concrete FolkArt Painted Finishes kit provide?
One 2 fl. oz. bottle of FolkArt Painted Finishes Concrete will cover approximately 1.5 square feet of surface.
When combining Light and Dark Concrete 2 fl. oz. bottles, approximately 3 square feet of project surface can be covered.
What is the best application technique to be used when applying FolkArt Home Decor Wax?
Application is simple using a soft bristled brush or a soft, lint-free cloth. The FolkArt Home Decor Wax Brush was specifically designed to be flexible and work wax into the porous, ultra matte paint.
Load the brush with wax, dabbing off any excess. Then apply a thin layer over the project surface in a smooth even application, being careful not to apply too much wax. Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours, then buff to desired sheen using a soft, lint-free cloth. The longer you buff, the higher the sheen.
What is the dry/cure time when creating with FolkArt Milk Paint?
FolkArt Milk Paint will dry within 30 minutes to an hour depending upon the chosen surface, how thick the paint has been applied, and how humid your work area is. It will take approximately 24 hours before it is totally cured to the surface.
What is the best technique to use when applying FolkArt Home Decor Antiquing Wax?
For easiest application of FolkArt Home Décor Antiquing Wax, it is recommended to first apply FolkArt Home Decor Clear Wax, let dry and buff. Having the layer of Clear Wax on the project surface between the painted finish and the Antiquing Wax will allow you more flexibility of moving the Antiquing Wax around. Then apply FolkArt Home Decor Antiquing Wax on top of the clear wax layer.
While antiquing wax is still wet, quickly wipe excess wax off of surface, leaving a darker color in intricate details, corners, and worn areas. Let dry overnight, then buff to desired sheen with a clean cloth. Keep waxed surfaces free of moisture and heavy use for 7 days. Clean up while wet with soap and water. For indoor use only.
What supplies should I have on hand when working with FolkArt Milk Paint?
You should have your prepped project surface, desired shade of FolkArt Milk Paint, FolkArt Milk Paint Brushes, paper towels, craft knife and foam bowls. You should also make sure to wear old clothing and protective clothing, as FolkArt Milk Paint can penetrate clothing.
When using Martha Stewart Crafts ® Glow-in-the-Dark Finish, how should I clean the tools?
Clean tools while still wet. Wash with soap and water or with Martha Stewart CraftsBrush & Stencil Cleaner: apply cleaner; work into lather, rinse in cool water, and let dry.
How much coverage does the Moss FolkArt Painted Finishes kit provide?
One 2 fl. oz. bottle of FolkArt Painted Finishes Moss will cover approximately 1.5 square feet of surface.
When combining Light and Dark Moss 2 fl. oz. bottles, approximately 3 square feet of project surface can be covered.
What is the difference between Chalkboard paint and FolkArt Home Decor Chalk?
Chalkboard paint, when applied to a variety of surfaces, will create chalkboards. Sticks of chalk can then be used to write on the chalkboards. FolkArt Home Decor Chalk is an acrylic paint that dries within minutes to an ultra matte finish.
Due to its thick consistency, this paint can be used in one quick and easy application to cover your project with one coat. It is easy to sand for a distressed look and has a beautiful satin finish after the wax is applied.
