FAQs

How can I keep my blending filaments from fraying when I embroider a satin stitch?
Drag the filament through beeswax before stitching, and then launder as instructed to remove the wax from the piece.
What is crewel?
Crewel is usually worked on linen that is stamped with the outline of the design. You follow the chart to fill in the areas. The design is worked up with wool yarn on a satin stitch.
How do I determine how many strands of each color I will need for each stitch in my Bucilla needlecraft project?
Refer to the color symbol guide in the instructions. Look in the third column (the column with the hands separating the floss). The number in that column tells you how many strands you’ll need for each color in each stitch.
What is needlepoint?
Needlepoint is usually worked on canvas that is printed with the design. You fill in the design areas with yarn. Needlepoint is “full coverage” which means that no canvas is exposed when the design is complete. The design is usually worked up with wool yarn in a continental stitch.
What is the difference between a whipstitch and a slipstitch?
Nothing- they are the same stitch, but people sometimes call them by different names.
How do I clean FolkArt Ultra Dye from of my brushes and stencils?
FolkArt Ultra Dye can be easily cleaned from used dye and stencil brushes while the bristles are still wet using soap and warm water. Wipe used stencils with paper towels or baby wipes immediately after each use.
How do I clean FolkArt Milk Paint from of my brushes and stencils?
FolkArt Milk Paint can be easily cleaned from used paint and stencil brushes while the bristles are still wet using soap and warm water. Wipe used stencils with paper towels or baby wipes immediately after each use.
Do you have any tips on the best way to thread a needle?
Separate the strands of floss
Take one strand and double it (most cross stitches require 2 strands, while back stitches require just one.)
Thread the looped end of the strand through the eye of the needle
Pull the loop to the bottom
NEVER make knots in your floss, so as to ensure a smooth finished back.
How do you paint vines using the One Stroke™ script liner brush?
Pull the brush along in an uneven line.
Cross the vine with other lines to make an intertwining look.
Why shouldn’t I wash my Bucilla tablecloth fabrics before stitching?
Bucilla tablecloth designs are stamped with water-soluble ink. If you wash the tablecloth before you stitch it, you will lose the pattern. When you are finished stitching your design, you will want to wash the piece so the ink markings do not interfere with your beautiful stitch work.
