It is best to apply several thin coats of paint, allowing the paint to dry between coats.
What is the difference between Chalkboard paint and FolkArt Home Decor Chalk?
Chalkboard paint, when applied to a variety of surfaces, will create chalkboards. Sticks of chalk can then be used to write on the chalkboards. FolkArt Home Decor Chalk is an acrylic paint that dries within minutes to an ultra matte finish.
Due to its thick consistency, this paint can be used in one quick and easy application to cover your project with one coat. It is easy to sand for a distressed look and has a beautiful satin finish after the wax is applied.
How much area will one 8 oz. jar of FolkArt® Chalkboard Paint cover?
Single coat coverage for one 8 oz. jar is 10.75 sq. ft. Since at least two coats are recommended, one jar will cover approximately 5.25 sq. ft.

Yes, simply coat the inside of the pot with a brush-on varnish or sealer.
Does my project need to be painted in a specific direction, such as with the grain of the wood?
No, it does not matter if the FolkArt® Chalkboard Paint is applied with the grain.
Is there anything special that needs to be done to the painted surface before using it as a chalkboard?
The surface should be “conditioned” before use. To condition the surface, wait 24 hours (recommended cure time) after the last coat of paint. Lay a piece of chalk on its side and rub on surface side to side. Dampen a paper towel with water and wipe the surface to remove chalk dust.
