Hot Foil Pen FAQ

Plaid’s Hot Foil Pen is a fabulous tool that should be in all artists and general crafters “stash” of art supplies!  It is not only convenient, it is easy-to-use!  This tool embellishes notecards, scrapbook pages, and mixed media projects with that special touch of metallic foil goodness.  Perfect for personalization, overall patterns, and freehand designs, the Hot Foil Pen is sure to add that special metallic shimmering pizazz to all creative projects.

The only preparation of a surface is to make sure the surface is clean and dust-free.  Please note that a smooth, non-textured surface will work best.

This product is packaged in a convenient storage case including the Hot Foil Pen, a tool tip cover, 3 AA batteries, 6 metallic foil sheets measuring 4” x 6” and a helpful instruction sheet.

Plaid’s Hot Foil Pen will completely heat up within eight to ten minutes (8 – 10).
There are six (6) different colors of metallic, shimmering foil sheets included with the Hot Foil Pen.  Dramatic colors such as:  Gold, Silver, Blue, Copper, Fuchsia, and Holographic shimmers are each available in a 4” x 6” sheet.  Each sheet can be used over and over until the metallic foil has been completely used.
Place the desired surface on a clean, sturdy, level work surface, face side up.  Next, position the metallic foil sheet onto the project surface where the design is desired; the matte side of the foil sheet should be facing upwards.  Once the Hot Foil Pen is fully heated, slowly write or draw over the foil sheet until the word, phrase, or desired drawing or doodle is complete.  Carefully, lift the foil sheet to reveal the shimmery embellishment.  NOTE:  It is always a good idea to test a surface first before creating an entire design.
It is always best to test both the surface and the Hot Foil Pen on a scrap piece of the same type of surface, however, a normal amount of pressure will work best as the key to transferring the foil is the heat, so it is advised to move slowly across the surface.
