Become an Expert, Know the Differences
What's the difference between gloss & satin finishes?
Satin has a soft, subtle sheen that's neither shiny nor flat, making it perfect for indoor projects on surfaces such as paper, wood, and canvas, as well as for seasonal décor. Gloss, on the other hand, has a shiny, reflective finish that adds vibrancy and durability, and it works both indoors and outdoors on a wider range of surfaces, includingwood, canvas, metal, rocks, furniture, and terracotta. In short, choose Satin for a soft indoor look, or Gloss for shine, durability, and an outdoor-friendly option.
Do I need to seal or cure my project?
HomeFront paint does not typically require sealing or special curing for standard decorative projects. Once the paint has dried completely, your project can usually be used as-is. For added durability, a clear sealer is recommended when using HomeFront Satin if the item will be handled frequently, exposed to moisture, or painted on a hard or slick surface that may cause scratching or chipping. HomeFront Gloss is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, making it a good choice for projects that need a more durable, weather-resistant finish. No baking or heat-curing is needed unless specifically stated on the product label. For best results, allow the painted surface to dry fully before use, and wait at least 48 hours before heavy handling.
Do I need a light to make my glow-in-the-dark paint glow?
Yes! Homefront Glow-in-the-Dark paint requires light to activate its glow. Simply place your finished project in bright natural light or indoor lighting to charge the paint before use. For an ongoing glow, display the finished piece under a black light.
Which Homefront paint and pens are best for outdoor projects?
For outdoor projects, HomeFront Gloss Finish Paint is the best choice. Not all HomeFront paints and pens are designed for outdoor use, so satin-finish paint, including metallic and glow-in-the-dark options, as well as oil-based paint pens, are recommended for indoor use only. If your project will be displayed outside or exposed to the elements, choose HomeFront Gloss Finish Paint for the most durable outdoor option.
