Gallery Glass Digital Downloads: Your Shortcut to Faux Stained Glass
If you're drawn to the stunning look of stained glass but prefer a simpler approach, Gallery Glass is a fantastic choice! It’s super beginner-friendly, and you can create beautiful, textured pieces without worrying about cutting glass, the right temperature for soldering, or trying to choose the right flux.

One of the best perks? Using Gallery Glass to upcycle thrifted glass items! Imagine finding an old glass vase or picture frame and transforming it into a glass masterpiece with just a few tools and some digital downloads. It's a great way to bring new life to something that might otherwise be forgotten.

This year, we launched Gallery Glass Digital Downloads, a quick and easy way to start your next project. All it takes is three steps to get started: pick your pattern, download, and print! Each pattern pack contains multiple unique designs, a recommended color palette (but you can use any color you’d like!), and easy-to-follow instructions on how to use Gallery Glass paint.

If you're ready to explore how to use Gallery Glass to elevate your creative projects, here is a handy step-by-step guide for pairing Gallery Glass Digital Downloads, Liquid Leading, and Paint.

What You’ll Need:

  • Gallery Glass Liquid Leading and Paint
  • If your final piece has a curved profile, we recommend a flat, spare piece of glass* (like from an old picture frame – this will be your temporary working surface)
  • Your printed Digital Download (these act as your design template)
  • Your final project piece (this is the surface your art will go on, such as a windowpane or glass vase)
*For this guide, we will be using this method to place the painting on a glass vase, but if you’re confident enough, you can paint on the final piece from the start!

Gallery Glass Paint and Tools

Step 1: Print and Position Your Pattern

Start by printing out your chosen Gallery Glass Digital Download design. For this guide, we are using Frames and Borders 2. Place this printed sheet underneath your spare piece of glass. This allows you to trace the pattern directly on top of the glass without marking your final surface. We also recommend taping your pattern to the back of the surface to prevent sliding.

Step 2: Outline with Liquid Leading

Use Gallery Glass Liquid Leading to trace the design lines onto the spare glass. This step provides the base and outline for adding your color, so take your time! If you need to, practice squeezing the bottle and tracing the lines on the glass before starting your piece. Wet Gallery Glass paint can be wiped off with a wet paper towel. Allow the leading to dry completely. This usually takes several hours or overnight for best results.

Step 3: Fill with Color

Once the leading is dry, it’s time to bring your design to life with Gallery Glass paint. Choose your colors and fill in the spaces between the lead lines. A small brush can help you smooth out the paint for even coverage. Make sure to apply the paint to the entire fillable surface area to avoid light holes! Let this layer dry thoroughly.

Step 4: Peel and Transfer

Now comes the fun part! Gently peel your dried design off the glass. Because Gallery Glass remains flexible, the design can be easily lifted and placed onto your final glass project piece.

Step 5: Add Clear Gallery Glass for Texture

To create a textured, faux-glass look, fill in the remaining background space on your final piece with Gallery Glass Crystal Clear. Use a circular swirling motion with your paint nozzle or brush to mimic the look of real textured glass.

Step 6: Let It Dry and Display Your Masterpiece

Once everything is dry (recommend drying time of 24 hours. Fully cures in 7 days) and in place, your custom glass art is ready to be admired! Hang it in a sunny window, frame it, or gift it to someone special.

Gallery Glass makes it incredibly simple to create the look of stained glass, no matter your skill level. With Gallery Glass Digital Downloads and just a few materials, you can transform any piece of glass into a stunning work of art.
