Make a meaningful Mother’s Day gift with this “I’d Pick You” Mod Podge plate project. Layer patterned paper, napkin designs, and soft French Blue and Wicker White paint to create a charming decorative piece for Mom.
Instructions:
-
Trace the center circle of a plate onto striped paper from the Westward Drift Paper Pad. Cut out the circle with scissors. Using a paintbrush and acrylic paint, write the phrase “If you were a flower, I would pick you” on the paper. Let the paint dry.
-
Brush Mod Podge onto the center area on the back side of the plate. Place the painted paper circle onto the glue and smooth it flat with your hands. Let dry.
-
Take a decorative napkin and gently separate the layers until only the printed top layer remains.
-
Brush Mod Podge around the remaining rim on the back of the plate. Carefully place the printed napkin over the glue and smooth it out with your hands or a soft brush. Fold the napkin over the edge of the plate for a clean finish, then apply a thin topcoat of Mod Podge. Let dry.
-
Once dry, trim away any extra napkin with scissors and gently rub away small excess pieces along the rim for a neat edge.
-
Paint the entire back of the plate with French Blue acrylic paint using a paintbrush. Let dry completely.
-
To decorate the second plate, trace the plate onto another decorative napkin and cut out a circle that fits the center of the plate.
-
Separate the napkin layers again, keeping only the printed top layer.
-
Brush Mod Podge onto the back of the plate and place the napkin circle onto the glue with the design facing down (this will show through the front of the plate). Smooth it out and apply a thin topcoat of Mod Podge. Let dry.
-
Paint the back of this plate with Wicker White acrylic paint using a brush. Let dry completely before using.
