After years of studying, late nights, and hard work, graduation day finally arrives. A banner celebrating the Class of 2026 instantly brings excitement to the party. With bold colors, big lettering, and the graduate’s name or year front and center, it becomes a standout piece that highlights the achievement and marks a milestone worth celebrating.
Instructions:
1. Unroll your craft paper and cut a piece that is 5 feet long.
2. Use painter’s tape to attach the paper to the wall at a comfortable painting height. Too high and you will need a step stool. Too low and you will be crouching. Make your workspace comfortable.
3. Use a digital projector to project the banner design onto the paper. A few inches of blank paper on the sides, top, or bottom is fine. You can trim it later.
4. Trace the design with chalk. Follow every detail or just map out the main shapes. Choose what feels easiest for you.
5. Turn the projector off, but leave it in place in case you want to turn it back on later for detail painting.
6. Helpful tip: print a color version of the design and hang it nearby for color reference while you paint.
7. Use the large mop brush to paint the larger color areas, like the silver balloons and black cap. Let them dry.
9. Use the large mop brush to paint the shadow of the letters slightly to the right and below the final lettering. This gives the words dimension and helps them pop.
10. Once the shadow letters are dry, paint the actual letters over your chalk lines with the top color.
11. Use the liner brushes and small mop brush to paint the details on the scroll, tassel, pennant banner, and balloons.
12. Use the large mop brush to paint the scalloped border to clean up the edges and finish the banner.
13. Use the paint pens to add the finest lines, like the balloon strings and the year.
14. When the banner is dry, trim the edges with scissors for a crisp banner that is ready to celebrate the graduate of 2026!
