Hand-Painted Glass Ornament DIY

Create custom glass ornaments with bold brushstrokes and swirled paint designs using bright, happy colors for a totally unique holiday vibe. 

Instructions:

Method 1: Hand-Painted Exterior Designs 

Project 1: Rainbow Heart Design 

1. Clean exterior of ornament with rubbing alcohol 
2. Let dry completely 
3. Using detail brush, sketch heart outline lightly with one color 
4. Paint concentric hearts working inward 
5. Alternate colors: start with outer ring in one color 
6. Paint next heart ring in contrasting color 
7. Continue layering hearts getting smaller toward center 
8. Use 5-7 colors for rainbow effect 
9. Refer to the photo for nested heart pattern 
10. Let dry completely before handling 

Project 2: Colorful Brushstroke Design 

1. Clean ornament exterior 
2. Using medium detail brush, paint loose brushstrokes around ornament 
3. Apply strokes in various directions: diagonal, curved, zigzag 
4. Use multiple colors randomly placed 
5. Layer some strokes over others once dry 
6. Keep design loose and abstract 
7. Refer to the photo for energetic stroke placement 
8. Add small accent dots if desired 
9. Let dry completely 

Project 3: Festive Leaf Pattern 

1. Clean ornament surface 
2. Using detail brush, paint teardrop or leaf shapes around ornament 
3. Vary leaf colors: lime green, hot pink, turquoise, yellow, coral 
4. Paint leaves radiating from top of ornament downward 
5. Add small center vein line in each leaf with contrasting color 
6. Space leaves randomly for organic look 
7. Refer to the photo for leaf arrangement 
8. Let dry completely 

Method 2: Swirled Interior Paint 

Single Color Swirl: 

1. Remove ornament cap/topper 
2. Squeeze small amount of paint (1-2 teaspoons) inside ornament 
3. Replace cap temporarily 
4. Rotate and tilt ornament to swirl paint across interior 
5. Continue swirling until coverage looks good 
6. Remove cap and place upside down to dry excess paint 
7. Let dry 24-48 hours 
8. Add ribbon hanger 

Multi-Color Swirl: 

1. Remove cap from ornament 
2. Add small amounts of 2-3 coordinating colors inside 
3. Replace cap 
4. Swirl gently to marble colors together 
5. Don't over-mix, try to keep colors distinct 
6. Drain excess paint 
7. Dry upside down completely 
8. Attach hanger 

Drying & Finishing 

1. Place painted ornaments on stand or in egg carton 
2. Dry in dust-free area for 24 hours minimum 
3. Once fully dry, add decorative ribbon through cap 
4. Optional: tie tulle or metallic ribbon bow at top 
5. Display on tree or package as gifts
