happy birthday banner

Birthday parties are the perfect excuse to go all outA DIY banner lets you bring color, creativity, and personality to the party. Think bright paints, bold lettering, photos, and fun details that match the vibe. When everything comes together, the banner becomes one of those decorations that instantly make the celebration feel bigger, louder, and more fun.

Other Things You'll Need

  • Kraft paper
  • Painters tape
  • Chalk or pencil
  • Scissors
  • Projector (if available)

Instructions:

1. Unroll your craft paper and cut a piece that is 5 feet long.

2. Tape the paper to the wall with painter’s tape. Set it at a height that feels comfortable for painting.

3. Use a digital projector to project the banner design onto the paper. A little extra paper around the edges is fine. You will trim it later.

4. Trace the design with chalk. Follow every detail or just sketch the main shapes.

5. Turn the projector off, but leave it in place in case you want it again for details.

6. Quick tip: print the design in color and keep it nearby while you paint for reference.

7. Use the large mop brush to paint the big color areas first, like the pink border and purple cake. Let them dry.

8. Use the large mop brush to paint the border stripes. Freehand them or turn the projector back on for help.

9. With the large mop brush, paint the shadow of the letters slightly to the right and below where the letters will go so they pop.

10. Once the shadow letters are dry, go back over with the top color and paint over the actual chalk lines that you traced earlier.

11. Use the liner brushes and small mop brush to paint the details on the cake. Mix a little white into colors if you want lighter highlights.

12. Use the large mop brush to paint the squiggle border and clean up the edges of the banner.

13. Use the small mop brush to add sprinkles across the banner.

14. When the banner is dry, trim the edges with scissors and hang it. Let the birthday celebration begin!
