Other Things You'll Need

  • Square Canvas
  • Water
  • Paper towels

Instructions

Step 1: Paint the Background Using a large flat brush, paint the entire canvas with Hot Pink mixed with Titanium White to create a light pink. Apply 2-3 coats for full coverage, letting each coat dry between applications.

Step 2: Sketch Ornament Circles Lightly sketch four large circles in varying sizes using pencil. Refer to the photo for placement. Position them at different heights to create visual interest.

Step 3: Paint the Base Colors Fill in each ornament circle with your chosen color: Refer to photo for placement.  Use a medium flat brush and apply 2-3 coats for solid coverage.

Step 4: Add Abstract Shapes With a medium round brush, paint organic, abstract shapes on each ornament using contrasting colors. Refer to the photo for placement. Use:

  • Titanium White blobs and circles
  • Hot Pink accents
  • Pure Orange spots
  • Deep Viridian shapes Keep shapes playful and irregular for a modern, hand-painted look.

Step 5: Paint Ornament Caps At the top of each ornament, paint a small rectangular cap using Burnt Umber. Add a short loop or line extending upward for the hanger attachment.

Step 6: Add Gold Hanging Strings Using a small round brush and FolkArt Treasure Gold, paint delicate lines extending upward from each ornament cap. Refer to the photo for placement. Vary the heights to create visual flow.

Step 7: Paint Gold Accents Add Treasure Gold highlights to ornament caps and small dots around some of the abstract shapes for extra dimension and shine.

Step 8: Refine Edges Use your base colors to clean up any uneven edges around the ornaments, creating crisp, clean circles.

Step 9: Final Details Add small dots of Titanium White around ornaments for subtle confetti-like details. Step back and add any final touches for balance.
