Summer Tomato Table Setting

Fire up your summer table with a festive DIY plate and placemat set that's perfect for backyard celebrations all season long. Using Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe, Mod Podge Fabric, and Apple Barrel Paint Pens, you can create a cheerful, handmade table setting that will have guests talking long after the fireworks fade.

Other Things You'll Need

  • Glass plate
  • Scissors
  • Posterboard
  • Fabric

Instructions:

Designing the plate:

  1. On poster board, sketch a tomato vine small enough to fit on the back of your plate. Outline the entire design in blue, then cut it out, leaving a thin border of blue showing around the edges.
  2. Apply Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe to the painted side of your tomato cutout and press it firmly onto the back of the plate, so the tomatoes are visible from the front.
  3. Apply another coat of Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe over the cutout to seal it. Allow the plate to fully dry before using.

Designing the placemat:

  1. Cut a large circle from poster board slightly bigger than your plate. A charger plate works great as a tracing guide.
  2. Cut a smaller circle from poster board to use as a template. Trace it onto your fabric and cut it out. Apply Mod Podge Fabric to the back of the fabric circle and press it onto the center of your placemat, smoothing out any wrinkles or air bubbles.
  3. Using the chisel tip of your red Apple Barrel Paint Pen, draw a decorative border around the edge of the placemat. A fun squiggle or wavy line adds a festive, handmade touch.
  4. Once everything is fully dry, pair your placemats with your finished glass plates for a complete summer table setting.
