3 DIY Wedding Theme Trends & Favor Ideas

3 DIY Wedding Theme Trends & Favor Ideas

blog-header-POL_Mixbook_bty_Wedding01_Uncropped_070518-(1).jpgWe’re partnering with our friends at Mixbook to share with you three of our favorite DIY wedding trends! Mixbook has wedding invitations and special occasion cards to reflect your event’s personality - there are tons of professionally designed options that are super easy to customize. From glittered to greenery, get the full DIY wedding favor tutorials below!
DIY Wedding Trend 1: Glittered Marbled Coaster Wedding Favors
We’re obsessed with all things glitter, and loving how these coasters pair with Mixbook’s “Glittered Marble” invitations for ultra luxe wedding vibes!

FolkArt Marbling makes paint pouring art super easy. The premixed formula means you no longer need to mix paint and chemicals to get a beautiful marbled effect! Using what’s called the ‘Dirty Pour’ technique, squeeze a small amount of FolkArt Acrylic Marbling Paint in each color into a small disposable cup by layering one color over the previous one. Use White sparingly. Gently stir the colors in the cup once using a craft stick.

Flip the cup over, and pour the paint onto the center of the wood coaster.

Lift the wood coaster and begin tilting it in a variety of directions so that the paint flows and swirls to create the marbled effect. Be sure to tilt the coaster in all directions to cover the entire surface as well as the sides.

04-diy-marbled-coasters-how-to.jpgSet the coaster flat on a cooling rack on a level surface. While paint is still wet, use paint brush to drip FolkArt Glitterific in Unicorn across marbled surface to mimic sparkly geode sediment patterns. Do not let paint brush touch the marbled surface. Allow the paint to dry for 48 hours.

When paint has completely dried and cured, use FolkArt 14k Gold Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint to paint edges of coaster. Let edges dry for one hour, and then spray the surface with Mod Podge Gloss Clear Acrylic Sealer. Cut adhesive backed cork board sheet to fit the back of the coaster and adhere to the back of coaster once the sealer has completely dried.

DIY Wedding Trend 2: Potted Succulent Wedding Favors
Mini clay pots are inexpensive to buy and super easy to paint using FolkArt Home Decor Chalk. The understated simplicity of the “Wedding Greenery” invitation suite plays perfectly with these succulent favors.

Supply List:
Coordinates with Mixbook Wedding Invitation Suite "Wedding Greenery"
Mixbook "Wedding Greenery" Labels
FolkArt Home Decor Chalk - Sheepskin
FolkArt Home Decor Chalk - Sage
FolkArt Brushes
Mod Podge Paper Matte Formula
Coordinating Cardstock
Wooden Coffee Stirrers
Mini Clay Pots
Succulents or other small plants

Base coat terracotta pot with FolkArt Home Decor Chalk in Sheepskin. Allow two hours of drying time.

Lightly ‘dry brush’ the clay pot with Sage to give a distressed appearance. Dip paint brush into paint, then remove most of the paint onto a paper towel. Very lightly glide the brush over the pot in selected areas to create a faux distressed effect. Once paint is dry, plant succulent in pot.

To make the tags, place Wedding Greenery Sticker Label on scrapbook paper. Cut edges so there is a ¼” border of scrapbook paper. Use Mod Podge Paper Matte to attach the mounted sticker down to a sheet of cardstock craft paper. Cut edges so there is another ¼” border surrounding the mounted sticker. Allow to dry. Finish the top with a coat of Mod Podge Paper Matte. When top coat has dried, glue tag to a wood coffee stir stick and insert into planted pot.

DIY Wedding Trend 3: Colorful Florals
The wedding photo booth is a classic - but give it your own twist by sending your guests home with a cute photo booth magnetic frame wedding favor! We chose colors to coordinate with these sweet Colorful Floral Frame invitations, or you can customize this easy favor DIY to any palette.

Supply List:
Coordinates with Mixbook Wedding Invitation Suite "Colorful Floral Frame"
FolkArt Acrylic Paint - Cameo Blush
FolkArt Acrylic Paint - Pink Melon
FolkArt Acrylic Paint - Peppercorn
FolkArt Acrylic Paint - Battleship Gray
FolkArt Acrylic Paint - Marsh Fern
FolkArt Paintbrushes
Mod Podge Matte
Mod Podge Decoupage Brushes
Mod Podge Squeegee
Delta Sobo Craft Glue
Scrapbook Paper - choose coordinating colors
Wooden Slats - 7 1/4" x 2 7/8"
Mini Clothespins
Adhesive Magnets

Cut scrapbook paper larger than wood slat so there is ½” border to folder over the sides.
Glue scrapbook paper to surface of wood slat using Mod Podge Satin. Use squeegee to smooth out air bubbles. Next, turn over and glue the scrapbook paper edges to the sides and back of the wood slat. Allow the glue to dry. Finish the top and edges with a coat of Mod Podge Satin.

You can also create a variety of frame options for your guest to choose from by simply painting some of the slats a solid color with a coordinating clothespin!

Paint mini clothespins with FolkArt Acrylic paint in complementary colors and let dry. Use Delta Sobo Glue to attach clothespin to the front of the frame. Position pin at the top center.  To make into a magnet, place magnetic adhesive strip across back when dry.
