Other Supplies

1/3 yd Coordinating cotton fabric, 1/3 yd Iron-on light weight interfacing, Iron, Sewing machine, Ruler, Scissors, Sewing needle, Thread, Buttons, Bound journal

  1. Follow kit instructions for the cross stitch panel.

  2. Trim sides of panel to ¾” from stitching.  Turn in edges a ¼” and pin in place on front side of panel.

  3. Measure the width of your journal (side to side).  Multiply that number by three.  Add to that number the width of the spine.

  4. Measure the length (top to bottom) and add a ½ inch.

  5. Use your calculation to cut your fabric and interfacing.

  6. Following manufacturer’s instructions, iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric.

  7. Sew a ¼” hem on both of the short sides of your fabric.

  8. Place cover over closed journal so center of fabric is at spine of book and adjusting so that the short ends of fabric are even together.  Fold ends into the inside of the front and back cover.  When closed, look at top and bottom to see if pockets are even.  Place a pin at the top and bottom of the outside front and back fabric cover to note where the pocket ends.

  9. While fabric cover is in place on book, pin cross stitch panel centered to the front of the fabric cover.

  10. With pins in place, remove cover from book and sew panel to the cover along edge.

  11. For the front cover pocket, take short side and fold right sides together until ends meet where you marked with pins.  Sew a ¼” seam on both ends, clip corners and turn right side out.

  12. Repeat previous step for back cover pocket.

  13. Sew a ¼” hem in remainder of sides between pockets, catching a ¼” of the inside corner of the pocket.

Cut four 2” circles from fabric to make yo-yo’s and sew onto the corners of stitched panel with a button.
