Instructions
Preparation
-
Wash shoes to remove manufacturer’s sizing. Do not use fabric softeners which will reduce paint adhesion.
-
Premix all colors using two parts Delta Ceramcoat acrylic paint to 1 part Textile Medium. Colors used on the shoes will be mixed with Textile Medium.
Stenciling
Note: When stenciling this type of project where you are only using portions of the stencil rather than the entire stencil design, it is easier to use painters or stencil tape to mask the open areas of the stencil that you don't want paint to go through.
Shoes and Hat
-
Using a dot stencil, begin by taping around a grouping of dots large enough to cover the front section of the shoe. Apply Stencil Adhesive by lightly dabbing it onto the back of the stencil then allow to dry lightly until tacky. Press the stencil firmly in place on the front of the shoe. Stencil dot design using a cosmetic wedge sponge. Load a mix of equal parts Navy Blue and Blue Heaven onto the large flat surface of the cosmetic wedge by dabbing into the paint using the narrow tip as the handle. (Remember, premix paints with textile medium before stenciling on fabric) Dab straight up and down over the dot stencil to transfer the design.
-
TIP: A stencil brush can be used if a cosmetic wedge is unavailable. Lift the stencil and reposition to repeat the pattern where desired. (Refer to photo for design inspiration.) Remove painters or stencil tape from stencil when complete.
-
Repeat the stenciling process using the 2-1/2” circle template for the daisy flowers on the hat and shoes in Blue Heaven.
-
Repeat the stenciling process using the 1-1/2” circle template on the shoe and the 3” circle template on the hat in a mix of equal parts White and Blue Heaven to make the hydrangeas.
-
Repeat the stenciling process using the 1” circle template on the sides of the shoes in Blue Heaven.
Painting
Note: If desired, you can apply the pattern or simply free-hand the brush strokes.
-
Trace the entire pattern onto tracing paper.
-
TIP: When transferring the pattern it is best to hold it in place with a piece of stencil or painters tape at the top. Place the transfer paper between the traced pattern and the painting surface. Transfer pattern as desired using black transfer paper.
-
