Other Supplies

  • Posterboard – 16” x 16”
  • DMC floss #3045,
  • #20 Chenille Embroidery needle
  • Two 18” x 18” linen throw pillow covers in Navy
  • 18” x 18” Pillow form
  • Scissors
  • Paper towel
  • Water basin
  • Palette or Styrofoam plate

Anchor with Rope Pillow

  1. Place poster board under fabric to protect surface and provide stability.
  2. Secure stencils to front of pillow cover with stencil tape.
  3. Using Wedding Cake, stencil anchor and rope motif in the middle of the pillow. Let dry.
  4. Embellish the anchor by embroidering the rope using the Split stitch and four strands of floss. Stitch over the stenciled rope, covering it completely.

Compass Pillow

  1. Repeat steps 1 & 2 as above.
  2. Stencil the compass motif with Wedding Cake paint. Let dry.
  3. Embellish the compass with the following embroidery:
    1. Center circle – three strands Satin stitch
    2. Inner circle at base of the 8 pointed compass rose is embellished with three strand Stem stitch and each point of the compass rose is two strands for the Back stitch outline.
    3. The largest points for the “wind directions” are outlined with three strand Stem stitch. The remaining directional points are outlined with four a strands Straight stitch.
