Preparation Instructions

Wash galvanized tin bucket using soap and warm water, rinse well and thoroughly dry.

Wipe entire tin surface with white vinegar using a soft lint-free cloth. The white vinegar will remove any remaining dirt, grease and soap film as well as promote better paint adhesion.

Measure and mark 1 1/2" below the lip of the bucket. Secure painters tape at the 1 1/2" mark. Press along tape edges to secure in place.
Painting Instructions

Painted Borders – Basecoat Black above the taped line to the lip of the bucket using 1" flat brush. Remove tape while paint is still wet and allow to dry.

Reapply painters tape 3/8" below the Black painted band.

Using the No. 8 flat brush, paint the 3/8" band Barn Red as well as the curled lip of the bucket. Remove painters tape and allow to dry.

Trace patterns onto tracing paper. When painted bands are completely dry, transfer all patterns using white transfer paper and a stylus.

Lettering - Paint White lettering on the Black band using the No. 5/0 script liner brush.

Light Value Poppies – Basecoat or undercoat the light value poppies Tangelo using a No. 8 flat brush. Allow to dry.

Shade to divide poppy petals using a No. 6 flat brush loaded with Orange Soda.

Add additional Passion Red shading at the base of the poppy using the No. 6 flat brush.

Mix equal parts of White and Tangelo. Load No. 4 flat brush with mixture and pull highlights on each petal stroking from the petal edge towards the flower center.

Where exposed, paint centers Light Foliage Green shaded with Evergreen and highlighted with Gecko using No. 4 flat brush.

Using No 1 liner loaded with Black, paint dots around flower centers.

Medium Value Poppies – Basecoat or undercoat the medium value poppies Orange Soda using a No. 8 flat brush. Allow to dry.

Shade to divide poppy petals using a No. 6 flat brush loaded with Passion Red.

Add additional Barn Red shading at the base of the poppy using the No. 6 flat brush.

Load the No. 4 flat brush with Tangelo and pull highlights on each petal stroking from the petal edge towards the center.

Where exposed, paint centers Light Foliage Green shaded with Evergreen and highlighted with Gecko using No. 4 flat brush.

Using No. 1 liner loaded with Black, paint dots around flower centers.

Dark Value Poppies – Mix equal parts of Orange Soda and Passion Red. Load No. 8 flat brush with mixture and basecoat or undercoat the dark value poppies with this mixture. Allow to dry.

Shade to divide poppy petals using a No. 6 flat brush loaded with Passion Red plus a touch of Barn Red.

Add additional Barn Red shading at the base of the poppy using the No. 6 flat brush.

Load the No. 4 flat brush with Orange Soda and pull highlights on each petal stroking from the petal edge towards the center.

Where exposed, paint centers Light Foliage Green shaded with Evergreen and highlighted with Gecko using No. 4 flat brush.

Stems and Pods – Mix equal parts of Evergreen and Light Foliage Green. Load the No. 1 Liner brush with green mixture and paint all stems and flower pods.

Shade stems and pods with Evergreen using the No. 4 flat brush.
-
Using same brush, highlight stems and pods with Gecko.
Finishing Instructions

Delta Ceramcoat Select Paints dry to a beautiful satin finish which is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. No brush-on finish is required, however, if desired Delta Ceramcoat Satin Exterior/Interior Varnish can be applied for added protection.
