  • Small natural paper journal
  • Paper towels
  • Container for water
  • Palette
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Scissors

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Refer to the Basic Silkscreen Tips for information on using Martha Stewart Silkscreens.
  2. Prewash all glassware and ceramics in warm soapy water prior to decorating. Rinse well and dry.
  3. Wipe over cleaned glass surface with rubbing alcohol moistened paper towel to further remove impurities and possible soap residue.
  4. If the tote bag will ever be used and then laundered, begin by first pre-washing the tote to remove sizing.
  5. Use scissors to cut apart the silkscreen designs.

Water Bottle

  1. Using stencil tape, tape off a 3” stripe around the center of the bottle as shown.
  2. Load a medium pouncer with Mermaid Teal. Pounce the color within the taped border and allow to dry.
  3. Before removing stencil tape, score along the tape edge using a craft knife. Carefully remove tape to reveal painted border.
  4. Silkscreen a Wedding Cake fern design in the center using a small dauber.

Journal

  1. Add a fern leaf design along the bound edge of the journal as shown. Silkscreen the fern Lily Pad using a small dauber. Allow to dry.

Tote Bag

  1. Silkscreen palm leaf designs randomly over the natural canvas areas. Alternate Snow Pea, Lily Pad and Mermaid Tail using a stencil brush. Allow to dry and then heat set.

Clean Up

  1. Wash all silkscreens, brushes, and tools immediately after use before the paint dries.
  2. Cleaned silkscreens should be stored on the backer sheet for future use.

Finishing

  1. Allow your painted water bottle to dry for at least 24 hours before using the bake-to-cure method to enhance your project’s durability.
  2. Allow the painted tote bag to dry 72 hours and then heat set to enhance the project's durability.
