  • Small white tin buckets
  • Carboard for support
  • Paper towels
  • Container for water
  • Palette

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Refer to the Basic Stenciling Tips for information on using Martha Stewart Stencils.

Placemats

  1. Place cardboard under placemats for support and to protect work surface.
  2. Stencil the rope design around the placemat approximately 1” from edge using Deep Sea Blue and small dauber. Let dry.
  3. Stencil “ahoy and ship” as shown using small daubers and colors shown.  Let dry.
  4. Let dry for 72 hours and then heat set.

Buckets

  1.  Using Kiddie Pool and small pouncer, stencil a ship’s wheel on each bucket as shown, let dry.

Clean Up

  1. Wash all stencils, brushes, and tools immediately after use before the paint dries.
  2. Cleaned stencils should be stored on the backer sheet for future use.

Finishing

  1. Allow the painted placemats to dry 72 hours and then heat set to enhance the project's durability.
