  • Paper journals
  • Pencil
  • Palette
  • Water basin
  • Paper towel

Instructions

Watery background technique

  1. Pour a small amount of Pink and Light Purple onto a palette.
  2. Add water to dilute the Pink using the medium brush and paint loosely on the paper letting water pool in areas.
  3. Add drops of water with your paint brush if necessary to lighten the color.
  4. Repeat the same process with the Light Purple overlapping the Pink slightly. Let dry.

Defined shape background technique

  1. Pour a small amount of Ultramarine and Sap Green onto a palette.
  2. Dilute the Ultramarine into a light wash using the medium brush and paint a circle starting on the outside working in adding water to the brush as you go. Let dry.
  3. Dilute the Sap Green slightly and paint land shapes over the painted circle.
  4. Add water to your brush as you go. Let dry.

Lettering

  1. Lightly sketch in pencil a word or saying on top of a dried watercolor background.
  2. Pour a small amount of Black onto a palette.
  3. Using the small brush dip into water and dilute the paint.
  4. Vary the letters by changing the widths with brush pressure and shade of colors with water amount to paint.
