Folkart ® Paint Tools - Detail Painters, #4156, Stencil tape, Assorted shapes and sizes of glassware, (I used a dinner sized plate, a bowl, a wine stem, and a vase), No. 1 liner brush, No. 10 Flat brush, Paper towels, Foam plate, Brush basin or container for water, Craft knife, Rubbing alcohol, Tracing paper and pencil (optional)

Instructions

Surface Preparation:

1.         Begin by removing price stickers and thoroughly cleaning each piece of glassware in warm soapy water.  Rinse in clean water and allow to dry.

2.         When dry, wipe surface with cloth or paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol to remove remaining grease or soap film.  Thoroughly dry.

Painting Instructions:

Stripes and Solid Areas

1. To create a little background interest, you may choose to paint a stripe. Simply measure and place stencil tape on surface where stripe is desired. 
2. Load 5/8” detail painter with Licorice and dab stripe area until desired opaqueness is achieved.  Remove stencil tape while paint is still wet.  If needed, when stripe is dry, clean fuzzy edges with a craft knife.  Detail painter may also be used to paint any other solid areas such as stems or bottoms.

Cherries

1. If desired, cherries can be painted free hand or with the guidance of a pattern.  When using a traced pattern, tape to the backside of the glass with stencil tape.
2. Load the 5/8” detail painter with Lipstick Red; paint groupings of two red circles as the base of the cherry.  Simply touch the surface, twist the detail painter and then lift straight up.  If needed, apply a second dab to create an opaque Lipstick Red circle.
3. Highlight the top of each cherry.  Add a touch of Pure Orange to your detail painter and again dab the cherry keeping the Pure Orange to the top.
4. Using a liner brush loaded with Licorice, paint the cherry stems slightly curved.  When dry, highlight stems with Wicker White.
5. Highlight each cherry with a tiny Wicker White dot and stroke.
6. Load No. 10 flat brush with Lime Green and paint one leaf at the top of the cherry stem. (Depending upon the curve of the cherry stems – some leaves are painted to the right and some to the left.
7. Highlight leaves with School Bus Yellow.

Finishing Details

1. Using your imagination, finish your glassware with Wicker White dots.  I painted my dots using the ¼” detail painter, the handle end of my paintbrush and a stylus for tiny dots.  When painting polka dots, use a fresh puddle of paint and to create same sized dots reload your tool with paint for every dot painted.  To create descending sized dots, load once and continue dotting until no paint remains on tool.  Allow to thoroughly dry, at least 24 hours before handling.

Curing Instructions:

FolkArt Enamels should be cured prior to using; there are two recommended methods:

Air Dry Method:  Air dry the project for 21 days before using.

Bake Method:  Place your painted glassware in a cool oven.  Set the oven temperature to 350°F and bake for 30 minutes.  Note:  Glass must heat gradually with the oven to avoid breakage.  After 30 minutes, turn the oven off; let the glass cool completely in the oven.  Painted glass should heat up and cool down in the oven.  Set aside for 72 hours.

Care Instructions:

Once painted stemware has been cured, it can be hand washed in mild soap and water or dishwasher cleaned on top shelf.

FolkArt Enamels Paint Important Facts:

1. Food and beverages should not come in contact with FolkArt Enamels.  When painting glasses, it is best to leave ¾” top around the rim free of paint.  When painting plates, only paint the rim leaving the center free of paint or reverse glass paint if artwork is desired in the center of the plate.
2. Painted items are not microwaveable
