Instructions
Printing the Papers
- Download the pattern art provided.
- Print these designs on white cardstock directly from a computer. If these are printed on an inkjet printer, lightly spray several coats of Mod Podge Matte Sealer over the printed design to seal the ink. If using a laser or dry toner base printer, it is not necessary to spray-seal the prints.
- Next, cut out the designs leaving approximately a ¼” border.
- Apply a wash of Autumn Brown over the bottom of each of the paper printed ingredients.
Painting the Clipboard
- Apply a strip of 1” painter’s tape along both vertical edges of the clipboard.
- Using a 1” basecoat brush, slip slap the center of the clipboard and each mason jar with White and Ivory. Allow to thoroughly dry, then remove the painter’s tape.
- TIP: Applying this to the wood cutout mason jars, will seal the surface so that paint colors won’t become too dark.
- Paint the remaining vertical borders Black. Allow to dry.
- TIP: If desired, painter’s tape on the dry slip slapped center before painting Black to keep a straight edge.
- Apply Delta Liquid Stencil Adhesive to the backside of the Trim Design stencil. Allow to dry then pat off excess adhesive using a paper towel. Position the stencil on the clipboard so that the flower and brushstroke border is centered between the Black section and the White/Ivory section.
- Using a sponge wedge, dab a small amount of equal parts Autumn Brown and Ivory on the wide end of the sponge, dab on the palette to offload. Use a straight up and down motion to stencil over the open areas of the design. Stencil two thin coats for opaque coverage.
- TIP: Applying a heavy coat of paint may cause color to bleed under.
Painting Mason Jar Cutouts
- Add additional color to each mason jar cutout using a No. 12 flat brush as follows:
- Slip slap paint Lime Green, Evergreen and Butternut
- Slip slap Passion Red and Barn Red
- Slip slap Orange Soda and butternut
- Paint the lids Fog Grey. Add an equal amount of White to Fog Grey, then paint the raised area of the lid using a No. 1 round brush.
- Using the same brush, paint the raised area of the jar White.
- Trace and transfer patterns to the top of the recipe card as well as inside all jars.
- Paint the pickle on the recipe card Butternut and Evergreen.
- Paint the chili pepper Passion Red (bottom) and Orange Soda (top).
- Paint the top of the chili pepper Evergreen.
- Trace over the transferred patterns inside each mason jar using a fine point permanent marker.
Paper Application
- Following instructions found on the Mod Podge bottle, decoupage all the paper ingredients to the clipboard.
- TIP: Use a wet wipe to help press the paper down as this picks up all excess Mod Podge and presses out air bubbles. Too much Mod Podge on the surface will repel paint. Allow to completely dry.
Finishing
- Accent paper ingredients with line work using the fine point permanent ink marker.
- Adhere mason jar wood cutouts to clipboard using white craft glue.
Creating your Own Decorative Papers
- TIP: Decoupage papers can easily be created and printed directly from the computer. Simply type a half dozen rows of script, then copy and paste to fill an entire page. Or take a photo of something painted and print it to be used as a background. Locate copyright-free images and print them.
