Gather a few of your painting supplies, a Layered Wood Tag Shape and some FolkArt Multi-Surface Acrylics and let’s create a fun Santa tag that can be used as Christmas décor independently or added to a wreath!
Instructions
- Carefully trace and transfer the basic patterns using gray graphite.
- Basecoat the shapes using the following…
- Body of hat – Apple Red
- Brim of hat – Classic French Gray
- Face – Cool Bisque
- Hair and Beard – Classic French Gray
- Inside Mouth – Licorice
- Lip – Cool Bisque
- Create a burgundy color by mixing Apple Red with a touch of Licorice. Shade the hat just above the brim of the hat. Highlight the hat with a mix of Apple Red and Cool Bisque.
- Shade the forehead just under the brim of the hat with Cool Bisque plus Pueblo.
- Blush the cheeks with Cool Bisque plus Apple Red
- Eyes – paint the iris of the eye, Classic Green. Highlight the lower portion of the green eye with Lime Green, add a Licorice pupil. Add two highlights of Wicker White to each eye. Paint the “white” of the eyes with Wicker White. Line the shape of the eye with Licorice.
- Eyebrows – Paint the eyebrows with Classic French Gray and then overstroke with Wicker White.
- Hair and beard – Using a liner brush, paint each strand of hair, individually with Wicker White. Be careful to overlap strokes.
- Add Apple Red blush on the corners of the mouth or lips.
- Paint the mustache with flowing strokes of Wicker White.
- Still working with Wicker White, add the short choppy, overlapping strokes on the brim of the hat to create a fluffy furry brim.
- Using Classic Green and Lime Green, paint a few small leaves on the brim of the hat to represent holly. Add a few Apple Red holly berries.
- When the brim is completely dry, add a layer of Hologram Glitterific for extra sparkle and shine.
- Accent the black lower edge of the tag with Licorice.
- If desired, paint the backside of the tag with Licorice and add a Merry Christmas message if desired.
- Used decorated tag on a tiered tray, wall grouping, table setting, or even work it up into a wreath!
