Abstract Holiday Home Decor
As you prepare for the holidays, fill your home with the colors of December's FolkArt Gathered Hues color palette.

Other Things You'll Need

  • FolkArt Stencils #39267, Floral Block
  • Light sandpaper
  • Four (4) assorted paper mache boxes
  • Four (4) natural brush trees
  • Three (3) paper mache cone trees
  • Natural wood garland
  • Craft knife

Instructions

Paper Mache Cone Trees 

  1. Basecoat each tree as shown in photo. Basecoat one with Engine Red, one with Cameo Blush and one with Hunter Green. Let dry.
  2. Using the Floral Block stencil and a medium stencil brush, stencil each tree with the colors shown in photo. Loosely repeat pattern as shown to cover entire tree. Let dry.
  3. Lightly sand paper mache to create a soft distressed finish on stencil designs. 
Paper Mache Boxes and Brush Trees 
  1. Basecoat each box color shown in photo and let dry.
  2. Mark the center of each box lid and cut a small slit through box from one side to the center. This will be used to insert the brush tree stem into the box.
  3. Stencil designs onto each box as shown in photo.
    • Tip: when using adhesive stencils remove the stencil when paint is wet and let dry.
  4. Lightly dry-brush each box with stencil brush and stencil color. Let dry.
  5. On a large paper plate, squirt a large amount of each paint color shown on the tips of the brush trees.
  6. Roll the brush trees into the desired color and let dry.
  7. When trees are dry, slide the wire stem into the slit in each box lid. Insert the base of the tree into the box and put lid and tree onto box. 

Wood Garland 

  1. Paint random sections of wood garland with small brush and Apple Spice. Let dry.
