Other Supplies
Plain fabric pillow covers
Stencils or masking tape (optional, for creating patterns)
Cardboard or plastic sheet (to place inside the pillow cover to prevent paint bleed-through)
Iron and ironing board
Instructions
1. Wash and dry the pillow covers to remove any sizing or chemicals that might interfere with the paint adhering to the fabric.
2. Iron the pillow covers to remove any wrinkles and create a smooth surface for painting.
3. Place a piece of cardboard or a plastic sheet inside the pillow cover to prevent the paint from bleeding through to the other side.
4. Decide on the design you want to create. You can use stencils, masking tape, or freehand your design. Use photo for placement
5. If using stencils or masking tape, secure them in place on the pillow cover.
6. Start painting your design onto the pillow cover. Apply the paint in thin, even layers to avoid clumping. Allow each layer to dry before applying additional coats if needed.
7. Allow paint to dry completely
8. To set the paint and make it more durable, you can heat-set it using an iron.
a. Place a thin cloth or parchment paper over the painted area and iron on a medium setting for a few minutes.
b. Make sure to keep the iron moving to avoid scorching the fabric.
9. After heat-setting, let the pillow cover cool down.
10. Remove the cardboard or plastic sheet from inside the pillow cover.
11. Insert your pillow insert into the cover.
