Instructions

Surface Preparation

  1. Using the large flat brush, apply a smooth, even coat of All-Purpose Sealer.
  2. Allow the sealer to dry, and then sand the surface smooth with fine grit sandpaper.

Basecoating

  1. Basecoat the top of the wood canvas panel Light Ivory using the large flat brush.
  2. Find and mark the center of the board. Use a ruler to mark five inches down from the top and then mark five inches from the side.
  3. Place the sharp point of a compass on the center mark and then draw a six inch wide circle around the center mark.

Stenciling

  1. Positon the oak leaf design from the More Leaves stencil in a corner. Secure with stencil or painter’s tape.
  2. Double load a cosmetic wedge sponge by dabbing half of the large flat end of the sponge into Dark Goldenrod and the other half into Daylight.
  3. Pat the sponge on the palette to blend the two colors as well as remove excess paint. Stencil the open image of the oak leaf by patting or dabbing up and down.
    1. NOTE: Be careful not to apply too much paint as it may cause bleeding under the stencil edges.
  4. Repeat this step to stencil an oak leaf in each corner of the board.
  5. Continue stenciling adding a maple leaf centered between the stenciled oak leaves. For interest, allow a portion of the stencil to fall off the wood canvas panel edges. Stencil the maple leaf by double loading the wedge sponge with Dark Goldenrod and Georgia Clay. Allow to dry.
  6. Using the pencil and ruler draw a horizontal line 4 ½” long. Measure and lightly mark the surface 3 ⅝” down from the top of the circle.
  7. Stencil one letter at a time beginning with “F” to stencil the word “FALL” centered on the line using Georgia Clay.
  8. Create a pattern of polka dots using the large end of a stylus or the wooden end of a paintbrush. Paint Dark Goldenrod dip dots all the way around the circle.
  9. Paint additional randomly spaced dots in a swirling design as embellishments and to further fill in any blank areas.

Finishing

  1. Paint the edges of the board Georgia Clay.
  2. Using the large brush, apply as many coats of Delta Interior Satin Varnish as desired, allowing each application to thoroughly dry before applying the next.
