Furniture Refinishing Idea - French Country Dining Hutch

Instructions

1. Prep the hutch by sanding, wiping and removing any hardware. You will not need to fully sand the furniture or use primer with FolkArt Home Décor Chalk. You just need to sand where you might have rough spots.
2. Using a Chalk Brush, apply two coats of Moss. Allow for dry time in between coats. For best results, move the brush in a circular motion to get in to all the nooks and crannies. This also helps create a smooth look. You can paint over hinges.
3. Using Lilac and Bavarian, paint the decorative details of the hutch.
4. Paint the removed-hardware with Bavarian. Apply two coats. Once dry sand with a sanding sponge to create a distressed look.
5. Tape the stencil to the center front of the cabinet. Pour a small amount of Bavarian onto a paper plate. Dip your stencil brush into the paint and tap off all the excess paints. It's best to have a small amount of paint. Working in a circular motion and from the outside in, paint over the stencil. Add a little Sheepskin to the brush and paint over the stencil in a few select areas to add highlights. Remove the stencil while wet. Continue to stencil any other desired areas.
6. Using the same brush, add a small amount of Sheepskin to the brush. Tap off the excess. Dry brush over the Lilac painted areas.
7. Once all the paint is fully dry, add 1 coat of wax to the entire hutch using a wax brush. Use circular motions and work in small sections. Just after you brush, use a soft towel and wipe in circular motions to blend. Allow to dry.
8. Using sandpaper or sanding sponge, sand the edges and any areas where you want distressing. Wipe clean with a rag.
9. Replace and shelves, hardware or glass.

PROJECT TIP: Chalk acrylic paint dries fast, so you will want to clean your brushes with water just after painting.
