Other Things You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Optional: sand paper & white chalk paint

Instructions

  1. Optional - Coat the entire birdhouse with a thin layer of white chalk paint and allow it to dry. Use your sandpaper to smooth down the wood.
  2. Use a pencil to create rough outlines of your doors and windows directly onto your surface.
  3. Paint the entire house (except the roof) with Camel. Allow to dry and add additional coats as needed to cover the raw wood.
  4. Paint the roof with Teddy Bear Brown. Allow to dry and add additional coats as needed to cover the raw wood.
  5. Paint your door with Juneberry. Allow to dry and add additional coats as needed. Create a darker thin line around your door using Juneberry mixed with brown. This creates the idea of dimension and shadow. Drybrush a bit of your lightest brown over the purple to add a bit of texture.
  6. Using a scruffy brush, create your greenery at the bottom 4th of the walls using layers of Fresh Foliage and Freshcut Grass.
  7. Paint the window frames using Teal and fill in the windows using Cottage White and Moon Yellow (see project image). Mix teal and brown and outline your window frame to create a shadow.
  8. Using a dry brush technique, lightly brush Camel and Bark Brown onto your roof with a downstroke to create the look of a thatched grass roof.
  9. When your project is completely dry, brush on your Invisible Glow as a top coat. In the project image, the entire birdhouse has a coat of Invisible glow but you could also be creative and only coat certain spots that you would like to glow.
