Other Things You'll Need

  • 8" Heart Shaped Stretched Canvas

Instructions

  1. This heart shaped canvas is painted in layers of roses using an ombre effect.  Beginning at the top of the heart shaped canvas, roses are painted darker and as the roses are layered working towards the bottom of the heart shape, the roses are painted slightly lighter in pink values.
  2. Working top to bottom. Layer 1 – Paint FolkArt One Stroke cabbage roses using Cardinal Red and Bright Pink.  Roses vary in size by using a 3/4" Flat brush and/or a No. 12 Flat brush.
  3. Layer 2 – The next layer of cabbage roses is painted Cardinal Red and Wicker White.  A few even use a touch of Pure Orange to create a melon color as an accent.
  4. Layer 3 – These roses are a softer, lighter value pink which is created by mixing a touch of Bright Pink to Wicker White.  Paint a layer of roses using the light pink paint mix plus Wicker White.
  5. Layer 4 – Create an even lighter value pink mix by adding more Wicker White to the previous light pink mix.  Fill in the last layer of roses using this lightest value pink mix plus Wicker White.
  6. Accents - Allow all layers of roses to dry and then paint accents.  The darkest layer, at the top, is accented with Bright Pink flower center dots.
  7. Accent the upper right and lower left areas of the heart shaped canvas with a few comma strokes of Treasure Gold – Gold.  These brush strokes are created using a No. 2 Script Liner brush.
