Wine Box with Painted Accents

Instructions

Painting

1. Paint the outside of the box Oyster Shell using a large flat brush. Allow to dry.
2. For a second coat, paint the box Cadet Grey. Allow to dry.
3. Place the pattern on the side of the box tape in place then transfer.
4. Stenciling – When stenciling this type of project, it is easier to create a mask by using painter's tape on the open areas of the stencil that you don't want paint to go through. Dab the back of the stencil lightly with Stencil Adhesive. Press the stencil firmly in place in the upper left corner of the lid. Load a cosmetic wedge sponge with Navy Blue, (grasp the very skinny end and pat the wide flat end into the paint) pat on palette to remove excess paint. Using straight up and down motion, pat over the open areas of the stencil. Repeat in the lower right corner of the lid and above the wine bottle cork.
5. Lay the stencil over the Navy Blue areas lining it up and repeat the entire stenciling process with Dusty Denim.
6. Wine Bottle and Glass – Using the appropriate size brush, paint the wine bottle and glass Navy Blue.
7. Paint the box interior and the wine bottle and glass Dusty Denim using the appropriate sized brush.
8. Paint the accent marks on the wine bottle and glass Cadet Grey.
9. Border – Mask off ¼" border on the lid and sides of the box with painter's tape. Paint the first coat Navy Blue. Allow to dry and paint the second coat Dusty Denim. Allow to dry.
10. Distress – Sand all pieces heavily removing part of the topcoat and allowing the bottom coat and some bare wood to show through.

Finishing

1. Apply a thin layer of Clear Wax to the entire surface, working the wax into the paint using a wax brush or soft cloth.
2. Allow to cure for 24 hours a then buff with a soft cloth to desired sheen. Allow to cure for 7 days before using.
