Bird House Photo Stands for Mother's Day
Leave a special note for mom with these hand-painted bird house stands for Mother's Day! Let your mom know how special she is by creating these fun bird houses, painted in her favorite colors for her to display on her office desk.

Other Things You'll Need

  • 3 small wood birdhouses
  • Medium gage gold wire
  • Drill with small size drill bit to match wire size
  • Wire cutters/pliers

Instructions

  1. Basecoat all birdhouse in colors shown and let dry.  Apply second coat where needed.   Let dry.
  2. Distressed areas shown in photo- Using Wicker White, dry brush edges of painted areas as shown to create white edges.  Let dry.
  3. Dots- Using the smallest liner brush, paint small dots as shown and let dry.
  4. Flowers- Following photo as a guide and the following tips, repeat floral pattern as shown.  For red flowers, paint red circle and while paint is wet add a white swirl with small brush.  Blue flowers, start with areas of blue dots and repeat with white while paint is still wet. 
  5. Add small leaves and add a small stroke of white when green paint is still wet.
  6. Plaid – apply tape in vertical stripes covering entire roof of birdhouse.  Remove every other piece of vertical tape, creating stripes.    Repeat this technique going horizontal with tape.  This will look like a checkerboard with tape.  
  7. Paint all areas not covered in tape with light blue.  Remove tape.
  8. Mix equal parts water and light blue and connect solid squares as shown with lighter watercolor light blue as shown.  Let dry.
  9. Drill small holes into top of birdhouses as shown.
  10. Insert wire and create twist as shown to hold photos.
