  • Brush Basin or container for water
  • Paper Towels
  • Tracing Paper
  • Black Fine Point Permanent Marker
  • Medium Grit Sandpaper
  • Gray Graphite
  • Stylus

instructions

  1. Using a 3/4” Flat brush loaded with FolkArt Home Décor Chalk Milk Jug, smoothly and evenly basecoat the wood panel surface.  Allow to dry.
  2. Once dry, lightly sand the surface to remove the raised woodgrain.
  3. Neatly and carefully trace the pattern that is provided onto tracing paper using a fine point black permanent marker.
  4. Transfer the leaf patterns onto the surface using gray graphite and a stylist.
 
Painting Instructions:  Paint the leaves in the order of the furthest to the back and then work towards the front layer of leaves.  Begin on the left side.
  1. Leaf No. 1 – (on the left) Using a No. 12 Flat brush loaded with Hunter Green, paint the leaf.  Allow to dry.  Next use a No. 1 Liner brush and paint the veins of the leaf Crocodile.
  2. Leaf No. 2 – Paint this leaf Crocodile using the No. 12 Flat brush.  Add a small amount of the background color, (Milk Jug) to the Crocodile to paint the veins using a No. 1 Liner brush.
  3. Leaf No. 3 – Paint this two-toned leaf, Mossy Meadow on the light side.  Paint the dark side of each leaf with a mix of a touch of Hunter Green with Mossy Meadow
  4. Leaf No. 4 – The dark side of this leaf is painted Crocodile and the light side is painted with Bright Green using a No. 12 Flat brush.  The veins ar painted with the same vein mix as used on Leaf No. 2 using a No. 1 Liner brush.
  5. Leaf No. 5 – The largest leaf on the right is painted Hunter Green using the No. 12 Flat brush.
Leaf Stems – All leaf stems are painted with Mossy Meadow and shaded with Hunter Green.

Cool colors are all the colors on the Green and Blue side of the color wheel. Yellow, Yellow/Green, Green, Blue/Green, Blue, Blue/Purple, Purple are all cool colors. All colors on the color wheel can be both warm and cool except Orange.
Transparent colors are thinned with medium or water to create a wash or a glaze of color that you can see through to the underlying surface.
