FAQs

What is glazing?
Glazing is a technique where a transparent layer of color is applied to an area. Use glazing to strengthen highlights or shadows or add slight tints of color.

To Glaze: Mix 1 part FolkArt® Glazing Medium to 1 part FolkArt Acrylic color. Apply glaze over surface using a soft cloth, wipe off excess if desired.
Can I burn my decoupaged candles?
Candles with decoupaged designs are decorative and should not be burned. Your designs can be destroyed if the candle is burned. In addition, while both Mod Podge and Royal Coat are not flammable, items used with these glues may be.
However, there is a trick if you want to "burn" your decorated candle. Burn the decorated candle until a small well is formed -- a well about the size of a votive candle. Place a small piece of aluminum foil in the bottom of the well. Then place the votive candle in the well and burn it. Replace the votive candle as needed.
Can I create a layered border effect with a painted background by taping off an area?
Yes, simply use stencil or painter’s tape to mask off a border. Load a Fabric Creations™ Sponge Cube with Soft Fabric Ink and pounce the color onto the masked area.
Be sure to allow the painted background area to dry thoroughly before stamping over it with a design.
Can I use a hair dryer or forced air to speed up the dry time when stenciling?
Absolutely, forced air will help to speed drying time not only on the stenciled surface, but also on the paper stencil itself if it is to be repeated.
Can I use a stencil when creating with Leather Studio™ paints?
Yes, Leather Studio™ paints work beautifully with stencils and even better with flexible, adhesive stencils. However, because the paint will dry as a film on the stencil, all stencils should be cleaned immediately while Leather Studio paints are wet with warm soapy water.
If Leather Studio™ paints have dried to the stencil, rubbing alcohol may assist in cleaning the stencil.
Do I need to prep my surface before applying Waverly Inspirations Chalk?
The benefit of painting with Waverly Inspirations Chalk is that no prep work such as sanding, stripping or priming is needed.
When painting on previously used furniture, simply clean the surface using a glass cleaner to remove dirt or dust particles. When painting on glass surfaces, make sure to clean surface using rubbing alcohol.
How can Apple Barrel Paints be used when crafting?
Apple Barrel Paints brush smoothly and dry quickly when basecoating, yet they can be used to stamp, stencil and hand paint a project.
How can I prevent my stitches from looking lumpy?
Experiment with the tension on your thread or yarn. You are probably stitching too loose.
How do I paint a One Stroke™ teardrop petal?
Load the flat brush with Dioxazine Purple and School Bus Yellow. Touch chisel edge of brush.
Pull the brush into a curve.
End brush on the chisel edge.
How do I transfer decorative painting patterns onto my project surface?
Place tracing paper over the pattern you wish to transfer. Neatly trace the main design lines with a pencil.
Position traced pattern on project, then slip a piece of transfer paper under tracing paper. Retrace the design. Hint: When retracing design lines, you can use a different color pencil or pen for your second tracing so that you can see if you have traced all the lines.
Remove tracing paper and transfer paper to reveal the transferred design.
