Mod Podge Fabric FAQ

Yes, we suggest that you wait 72 hours and then wash in a mild soap such as Ivory Snow and line dry. Do not use a heavy detergent or Woolite. Items may be handwashed as well.
To use napkins with Fabric Mod Podge, follow the steps below:
  1. Cut the design out of the Napkin and discard the layers. Place Napkin upside down on a piece of parchment or wax paper.
  2. Apply Fabric Mod Podge® to the back of the design.
  3. Place the Napkin and paper face-up on the fabric where desired, and press firmly but gently to the surface with your fingertips. Remove the paper carefully and press the design firmly again.
  4. Apply a second coat of Fabric Mod Podge® with the Textile Brush, working into the Napkin with a gentle, swirling motion. Clean the brush often when the ink of the Napkin bleeds.
  5. Cure for 72 hours.
  6. Wash in cold water by hand or gentle cycle. Dry flat or line dry.
You must pre-wash, dry and iron the fabric. DO NOT use fabric softener. If using a t-shirt or a thin fabric, place a piece of wax paper inside directly under where you will be decoupaging your design.

The project is machine washable in cold water on the gentle cycle or by hand after 72 hours, and line dry. However, Fabric Mod Podge® will hold up best on decorative items that don’t have to be washed often.
After air drying your fabric to fabric decoupage project for 72 hours in a mild dry room, your project can be hand washed or machine washed on a gentle cycle using cool water and mild detergent. Fabric softener should not be used.
When washing your Fabric to Fabric decoupage project in the washer, your decoupage layer will absorb a little water and create a milky look. Your project will be a little tender at this point, so be careful when handling. But do not be alarmed it will fully dry to its original state.

We recommend cleaning an Oilcloth decoupage project by wiping the surface with soft cloth, cool water and mild detergent; it is not recommended to put in the washing machine.
First, prepare your project surface. Then using the Martha Stewart Crafts Soft Bristle Decoupage Brushes, apply one even, smooth coat of Martha Stewart Crafts Fabric to Fabric Decoupage Finish to the area on the selected fabric surface that you would like to decoupage.
For the strongest bond, allow it to dry slightly (about 2-3 minutes) before placing your decoupage fabric cut-out. To place your decoupage fabric cut-outs, apply a smooth, even coat of Martha Stewart Crafts Fabric to Fabric Decoupage Finish to the backside and place onto the pre-decoupaged surface. Use your fingers, a Martha Stewart Craft Squeegee or a Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Brayer to press fabric onto the surface. Smoothing from the center towards the edge of the fabric to remove air bubbles and excess decoupage finish. Wipe away excess decoupage with a damp paper towel. Once in place and smoothed, allow to dry 2 hours. When completely dry, brush a smooth application of Martha Stewart Crafts Fabric to Fabric Decoupage Finish over the fabric cut-out, making sure to seal the edges of the fabric (extend your decoupage at least ¼-inch past the outline of your fabric cut-out or fabric lace trim to ensure that it is sealed). Allow to dry 2 hours and repeat. If decoupaged item will serve a purpose other than decorative, a third application of Martha Stewart Crafts Fabric to Fabric Decoupage Finish is recommended. To cure, air dry project for 72 hours in a mild dry room. To expedite curing, allow project to dry a minimum of 24 hours, then iron (no steam) using a pressing cloth with a small weave on low-medium setting for 30 seconds in a small circular motion. Do not use a towel as a pressing cloth, as it can leave marks or stick to the decoupaged project. You can also force dry in a dryer on the highest setting for 1 hour. Once cured, fabric project can be hand washed or machine-washed on a gentle cycle using cool water and mild detergent. Do not use fabric softener.
When working with dimensional or textured fabrics such as the Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Lace Trims, it may be helpful to press and hold the lace trim in place a few additional minutes because of the nature of the thicker textiles.
You can also saturate the thicker materials in Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage Finish for a couple of minutes before using. This helps to improve the application of adhesion when working with thicker fabrics.
