What is Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint?
This is a waterbased paint that lets you turn any porous surface into a chalkboard. It is available in four colors: green, blue, black, and gray.
What surfaces can I use Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint on?
Most porous surfaces such as wood, terra cotta, papier-mâché, canvas, and plaster.
How do I prepare my surface for use with Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint.
Wood – Sand smooth with fine grit sandpaper, wipe off sawdust. Papier-Mâché – Wipe clean with damp cloth. Terra Cotta – Wipe clean; seal pot interior with paint or 2 coats of Martha Stewart Crafts Sprayable Satin or Gloss Enamel Finish. Canvas – Wipe primed canvas clean; if unprimed, apply 2 coats of gesso primer. Plaster – Wipe clean with damp cloth. Tin – Although not porous, proper preparation makes tin amenable to chalkboard paint. Wash with soap and water, then wipe with a white vinegar dampened cloth. Basecoat with Martha Stewart Crafts Paint. Chalkboard paint can be applied once the surface is dry.
What type of tools should I use with Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint.
Use a soft bristle brush or a foam brush.
How do I apply Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint?
Apply 2 to 3 thin coats. Let dry 1 hour and sand smooth with fine grit sandpaper between applications. Use as is; do not dilute or mix with any other paints or mediums.
When using Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint, should I seal the surface?
No, adding a sealer will inhibit the writing surface.
How long will Martha Stewart Crafts™ Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint take to cure? When can I write on it?
The chalkboard surface cures in 24 hours. Condition before use by rubbing chalk over the entire surface. Using a damp towel, wipe the surface clean and let dry.
Is Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint permanent?
Yes. Be careful when applying near clothing, rugs, or flooring.
Is Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint fade-resistant?
When used away from direct sunlight, the paint will resist fading.
Can I use Martha Stewart Crafts ® Multi-Surface Chalkboard Acrylic Craft Paint outdoors?
Yes, but keep projects in a protected area with no direct exposure to the elements.
