Other Supplies
Brush basin or container for water, Paper towels, Foam plate for palette, Medium grit sandpaper, White cotton lint-free cloth, Rubbing alcohol, Three glass canning jars
Instructions
-
Thoroughly wash glass canning jars in warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry.
-
Moisten paper towel with rubbing alcohol; wipe over entire glass surface to remove remaining dirt, dust or grease from glass which can prevent paint from thoroughly adhering to the glass surface.
-
For a single color distressed look, basecoat entire exterior of glass canning jar as well as metal ring on lid. (If jars are used for floral designs, the center lid disc can be discarded). Allow to dry for two hours. Colors used: FolkArt Home Decor Chalk – Seaside Villa, Lilac and Parisian Grey.
-
When dry, apply a second coat of each color. Allow to dry for two hours. FolkArt Home Decor Chalk will dry to an ultra-matte finish.
-
TIP: If desired, the second application of paint can be painted a different color – when distressed, the first layer of color will show through.
-
Using medium grit sandpaper, sand raised logo designs creating distressed, time-worn effect. Lightly sand over other areas to further create a worn look.
-
Wipe over entire sanded surface to remove dust. If desired, seal and protect painted and distressed glass jar with FolkArt Home Decor Clear or White Wax. Brush entire surface with Clear Wax, allow to dry. (If using White Wax, apply wax then immediately wipe to remove excess).
-
Using soft, white cotton, lint-free cloth, buff waxed surface to desired sheen.
-
TIP: The longer you buff the higher the sheen.
