Basic Safety Tips
- NEVER touch the Hot Foil Pen tip as it may cause severe burns.
- Use light to medium pressure and allow the heat to transfer the foil to the surface. It is best to move slowly for a consistent transfer.
- You may find it easier to pull the tool towards you, be comfortable and turn your project surface as necessary.
- Be sure to turn the Hot Foil Pen off and allow to cool completely after each creative session prior to storing in the convenient storage case.
- NOTE: This product contains small pieces and is not suitable for children under 14 years of age without adult supervision.

Do I need to prepare my surface?
The only preparation of a surface is to make sure the surface is clean and dust-free. Please note that a smooth, non-textured surface will work best.
How is the Hot Foil Pen packaged?
This product is packaged in a convenient storage case including the Hot Foil Pen, a tool tip cover, 3 AA batteries, 6 metallic foil sheets measuring 4” x 6” and a helpful instruction sheet.
How long does it take the Hot Foil Pen to heat up?
Plaid’s Hot Foil Pen will completely heat up within eight to ten minutes (8 – 10).
How many different colors of foil sheets are included with the Hot Foil Pen?
There are six (6) different colors of metallic, shimmering foil sheets included with the Hot Foil Pen. Dramatic colors such as: Gold, Silver, Blue, Copper, Fuchsia, and Holographic shimmers are each available in a 4” x 6” sheet. Each sheet can be used over and over until the metallic foil has been completely used.
How should the metallic foils be applied to a desired surface?
Place the desired surface on a clean, sturdy, level work surface, face side up. Next, position the metallic foil sheet onto the project surface where the design is desired; the matte side of the foil sheet should be facing upwards. Once the Hot Foil Pen is fully heated, slowly write or draw over the foil sheet until the word, phrase, or desired drawing or doodle is complete. Carefully, lift the foil sheet to reveal the shimmery embellishment. NOTE: It is always a good idea to test a surface first before creating an entire design.
Should I use light or heavy pressure while creating with the Hot Foil Pen?
It is always best to test both the surface and the Hot Foil Pen on a scrap piece of the same type of surface, however, a normal amount of pressure will work best as the key to transferring the foil is the heat, so it is advised to move slowly across the surface.
